I think we can all agree that music cures many things. Music makes us feel many ways. I think we can also agree that music makes us reach inside ourselves and go to a place where only few are allowed. While music makes us, dance, think, music brings social and political change and thought processes.
Music is also an elixir, it releases dopamine and other stuff that goes on in the synapse of our brains and makes us feel good. Music has produced countless numbers of children since the beginning of time.
But with House.. its different. Its erotic, sexy even. Well in my opinion it is and here is a story, because the best way to describe last night.. is to take you on a musical erotic journey.
About last night.
Forget what ya heard, a woman likes to be handled! Especially if "taken care of" properly. She likes to be held and caressed. She likes to be made love to. She likes to be pampered.... and then there are times when she wants her lover to come in and handle "her". She wants to see "her" partners dominance she wants him in control.
Now she may fight it a little bit, but trust and believe she wants you to take "her" in caveman like fashion and make love, screw, or fuck "her"! - and if done right she may even scramble you some eggs in the morning. If you do it REAL right she will get up and fix you a meal directly after the session. But then again... if you have done it right she shouldn't be about to walk without assistance.
Now I can't go telling all the secrets but there have been times. Much like men women too like a double header( and I ain't talking bout baseball).. meaning well, I will just ask that you use your imagination.
"Her" story is "her" own. Come into "her" world completely inside "her" world....and "HER" could be and was several different women in the room.
The social butterfly had put herself into a cocoon. She needed to clear "her" mind and give the pretty kitty a breather. She had many who tried to break "her" out of the cocoon but she knew only the right one would be able to do it.
She was a selfish and selfless lover., and had always kept her moist and tasty pink box to a single lover..
But there were times when she needed that double header. Two lovers, too prudish to have them at the same time but freaky enough to have them both in one day. She knew she had the tools and skills to make men drool with desire, but only the right would could pull out the skills that she possessed.
Music had become her lover. It satisfied "her" and never let "her" down. With music she could have many lovers and not feel the shame of being the "town bike" ( meaning.. everyone had ridden "her")
She could have as many lovers in one night as pleased. But she knew, eventually one of those nights she would get handled. and it finally happened the night of Bruce's birthday party at The Marble not only was she handled but she also got that double header that she secretly longed for.
She walked in on a set that was not what she was accustomed to coming from the Detroit House music scene the DJ was well, the mofo was boring there were some that danced if only to be polite but what they really wanted was the birthday celebrant and the headliner, Glenn Underground. She glided across the floor confident and sure. Knowing that she was the baddest bitch in the room. Everything was perfect for "her", and she was going to make the best of "her" night!
Bruce stayed true to what the people wanted. Something different. He was sexy with his set. No top 40 cuts, and if there were any he had a new mix or edit or whatever y'all call it. He had the crowd under his spell., and he had "her" wanting to him to control "her" even more. She wanted him to climb inside of "her" walls and stroke "her" like he was spinning the tunage. He beat it up hard and sexy like. He made "her" moist so moist she had to check and make sure everything was alright. He'd set off what was going to be the perfect double header. Bruce knew exactly what he was doing. He enjoyed mind fucking "her" and everyone else in the room.
His musical selection was perfect for the sexual tension that needed to be released by all those in the room. She saw how others had become a speaker freakers for this Detroit born DJ, and entrepreneur.
She understood that every woman in that room would have gladly allowed Bruce into "her" sanctuary . Not truly understanding that Bruce was there for the 1st part of the double header.
The hard beats and the baseline is what makes music erotic. Its the call of the most primal. The most sensual. and that night Bruce went back to the basics and channeled all of his, "before the invention of fire" instinct and made the beat titillate our souls and other lady parts.. oh it was some tingling sensations goin on last night..in areas that we keep covered up! - Music Erotica
....and then, Glenn
Glenn Underground has to be one of the sexiest chocolate big brothers ever to walk the face of the planet. He is also one of the most talented. Not sure of his musical roots., but I do know they run deep. Glenn is music personified, he plays several different instruments and his compositions are loved all over the world. He is a favorite among the deeper spinners of House in this area! but how he affected, "her" well...allow me to continue.
As his chocolate goodness approached. You had the less classy and tasteless House sisters, jumping around screaming making their presence known- those are the ones looking for acceptance and belonging-hey it takes all kinds right?!? But in "her" opinion that is not what Glenn is all about. Loud tacky females get more of a disapproving look than those who are more lady like in nature.
..anywho from his 1st beat, he came out with the confidence and swag of a Mandingo warrior and after the first session with Bruce "her" spirit was ready and willing to take more of what they had to offer. Juices already flowing from the last set she was ready to receive Glenn and allow him to "handle" her but unbeknownst to "her"... she was NOT ready. Glenn (never one for taking sloppy seconds) had no idea she had had the 1st of "her" double header.. she was a clever one.
She found herself drawn to Glenn's power behind the decks. She was completely open to and for him. His music entered "her" and with each thrust of each beat he had "her" under his complete control. She found herself alone in a room full of people. She watched as others delighted in the dance but he had "her" under his complete and total spell. - Music Erotica.
As he played she felt her insides filling up with warm sweet sticky pleasures meant only for him. She slow rolled to his style. She allowed him to play with her nature while he played each one of his own tracks. She knew she could handle all twelve of the inches he was playing with. Gladly she allowed him into her in every orifice... he was welcomed!
He brought her to a climax and she exploded all over his decks more than once. He knows his own power she became aware of his power. She became his speaker freaker. and he banged her over and over again...She became more aroused as she watched his massive hands and nimble fingers control that wax. How they gently touched the music by this point she was under his complete and total control. Because she knew the other places he could explore if one she would just open up..

...and after he was done with "her" and the others it was she that washed him down and cleaned him up. She was grateful for the erotic session they both enjoyed and wanted to show her appreciation. He, in turned smiled knowing that he had left another lover unable to stand!
Most people think when I am in the club I'm not having any fun. Most often i'm in the "zone" thinking or enjoying. People watching is one of my most favorite past times. I knew last night I was going to attempt to write my first erotic piece I hope I did it justice... those brothers played House like it was supposed to be played.
But then again, its Glenn and Bruce they only know how to
Let The Music Play!

House Music's foundation is built on love!
In my last Blog I mentioned some new spots that have opened up and just in time for MOVEMENT. The Situation Room owned and operated by the Johnson brothers (no relation) swank joint for the upwardly mobile amongst us. As with their Mars Bar the inside is sexy with great appeal. Every Thursday Demetrius Orr and Drake have their JuJu night, its a not to be missed night!
I have not visited Queens bar or Two James but I wanted to mention them because... well, I want everyone to WIN I want everyone to be a success. That does not mean everyone will be successful, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting the best for all involved.
The Marble Bar is going to be one of those hot venues during MOVEMENT and beyond. It has already become a main stay for larger sets in the House and Techno world. Glenn Underground will bless the walls, speakers and decks this coming Saturday for Bruce Bailey's birthday. FYI... He (Glenn) is going to clown ( also known as, come in fuck shit up...and leave!) and since Glenn is going to clown, Wilhite will too! I'm expecting big things from the birthday celebrant... NO top 40 tracks. Play like I KNOW you can! Bring that hot shit out cha ass! - yup!! I said it! -its YOUR day, you better play like it was your last day on earth!! ...and should you have a problem or issue with what I have just said.. you have my number please feel free to use it sweets. -( here is where you insert that big stupid grin-devilish grin)
Then we have the little red headed step child... Sicaros- Does anyone remember the story of the ugly duckling... well if ya don't. Duck is born... ugly ( hence the name the ugly duckling)- Duck gets teased Ducks feelings are hurt. Duck grows up to be beautiful and everyone rides his jock. End of story - well...kinda
You gotta give it up to Rick Hines who had a dream and made it happen. and NO his place does not have all the bells and whistles as other places and YES Rick your drinks are TOO damn high ( listen to your patrons) but you gots to give it up to a man who put his heart and soul and hard earned dollar into giving people what they want. Not just to make money but because Rick also believes in and loves this underground sound and life. This is his labor of love. Not just for the music but for the people and his peers.
...and yeah, its been a slow roll but we are working to change that. Sicaros is nicely positioned on Shelby between Congress and Learned steps away from the host hotel for MOVEMENT! ( the Situation Room is just up the street) - can you start to see the ugly duckling analogy?
Keeping with my goal to see everyone win. I proposed an Open Decks night to help not only bring more business but to showcase DJs that may not get to play out as much as others. And while there are days I want to give Bruce shaken DJ syndrome I got that idea from him. He will give just about anyone a chance.
No matter where you are in this DJ game the decks were open for you to play. To have a laugh with a peer. To share stories, tell lies, listen to new talent or not so new talent that you may not have heard.
Has it been a success? Well... that depends on how you measure success! To me, yes it has. Has the crowd been light, well yes it has. BUT!!!... each and EVERY DJ that has come through has had a great time. Every new jock as learn something from a vet. Friendships have been formed, new folks have gotten to see the inside of Sicaros and Rick is primed for new business rolling through his doors. So you see, that ugly duckling.. the bar that some of you laugh at WILL become the beautiful swan that its father (Rick) envisioned it to be. There is ample space for dancing and socializing. Is there room for improvement.. yes! as my daddy would say, "you gotta crawl before you can walk"!
Here is what grinds my gears. Some of you are so busy dissing this mans spot but YO punk ass don't have a pot to piss in, or a window to throw it out of! It reminds me of how some of you dissed MIX and that.. I could not stomach. and SHE IS STILL STANDING!! - so hate on THAT!!
Why is it when someone does something that will benefit us all it's met with disdain, taunts, and ill will towards the very person you have smiled at slap fives with and have known for years. that my friends is that Willie Lynch theory also known as "NIGGA SHIT"!- you hate on your own people instead of trying to help them grow... so here is what I say to that. If your bitch ass, in all of your bitchassness can't say something nice., keep that hole in your face shut! Cause you talk cash shit but some of you are still on the outside looking in. - sad thing is its only done to the black club owners by their own people.. again.. nigga shit!- fuck outta here with that foolishness. Hell, half of you talking shit don't even have a car to get to the gigs you playing at!
We have had the pleasure of hearing some out cold DJs most notably DJ Eric Hinchman and DJ Terry James. ( hinceforth and forever more known as Terry Jamz or TJamz) they came down there and blew the walls back. Eric provided some smooth tunage sexy even, and TJamz giving all kinds of energy and life he is a late night dJ fo'shizzle!
DJ Mobstem who had never touched the decks before was at the 1st open decks. Seeing DJ Magic school this young man was priceless. You see that is what this scene is about. Each one teach one. I would like to keep the open decks going but taking it to once a month., cause one thing I WILL NOT do is let one or several monkeys stop my show! Anyone who wants me to help, I will.. if for no other reason than, I BELIEVE in each one of you and want to see you WIN!!
So while some of you sit back and talk and let all that bullshit fall out cha mouf there are some of us who will continue to promote what we love and not talk about what we hate.
..and news flash some of you so called vets need to step ya blending and mixing game up. I listen to everything and my ear has gotten a helluva lot better. Now since you all talk so much shit I wonder how you would feel if I called ya ass out and put Y'ALL on blast. Since you do it so easily to others.
Think about it. Grow up! Enjoy the fact that you are still around to do what you love, and that there are still people who want to hear you entertain them. Cause trust and believe as surly as you are high one day you can hit the ground face 1st the next! Support your people!! Stop being so damned divided. Stop hatin on someone because they did something you wouldn't or couldn't!
MOVEMENT is up next and we have company coming be on ya best behavior and in my Rodney King voice. " can't everyone just please get along"
Rick., you're gonna win! Everyone else... we are ALL gonna WIN!
Let The Music Play
~P

As we move closer to the summer season, the parties have continued to out do each other.
One of my goals is, and always will be, to bring everyone together in the spirit of love via the vessel of the turn table(s) guided by its captain, the DJ! I enjoy telling stories of my experience in this underground community of ours. How the Playas made us feel when they played the music that we love. It brings me joy to bring my readers in on a party that they may not have had the opportunity to attend for whatever reason. I'd like to think that I am a common voice for all. yes!...I can be egocentric at times! Its rare but it happens-lol
I want those who may not fully understand what House music is or what being a House Head is or what this underground life is about.. I want them to know that we are our own sub culture, we are some of the most dynamic group of people on the face of the planet. We are a community. We do this for the love of the music. and SHOULD do it for the love of each other and the community that we nurture.
Community... social activity, a unified body of individuals,an interacting population of various kinds of individuals (as species) in a common location, a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society.
This is who and what we are! and our shit is GLOBAL we are getting close to time, bringing that global village to Detroit. Right here, in this beautiful city I call my home.
We have new venues, This Situation Room, Sicaros, Two James, Marble and Queens Bar! Stay tuned for party locations and times.
.....ANYWHO back to., not about the "community" but about last night!
I just had to throw that, "community" stuff in for my opening fluff piece. - insert big cheesy grin
So! There was a Collision., of sorts. A tag team event pairing together Detroit and Chicago DJ's who just like to wreck havoc on the tables. Nervous Breakdown and Will Jacks - who, by the way provided a very nice sound system. Side note.. love the love Chi town shows their own. Not many would bring all that equipment 281 miles to help make a house... quake!
DJ Taz and Pablo Diskobar aka Pauly Cicero. Pablo ( imma ALWAYS call you that) was introduced to me by Dee Jay Alicia ( more about THAT lil Hell Cat later) via Facebook and I have been a fan(atic) ever since. So to put two of my favorite people together was right up my alley. He did NOT disappoint me at ALL- I would have like to hear him play longer, but I understand we were working with 8 DJs and limited time. Next time for sure. Shout out to Kim for doing what no what else did or would. Bring the DJ that "I" KNOW can straight BANG his ASS off!! He came and left.. HARD! And that damn Jeffery aka Taz, well., outside of his immediate family, co-workers, neighbors, DJ peers, the dog, and old high school classmates. I do believe I am his favorite person. He quinces my musical thirst every single time. Taz is one of THEE most under utilized DJs in the city. I do NOT want to see him play the last set at Excursions- he needs to be right there in the thick of things.. prime time is calling his name!- Funny thing is is.. when I 1st met Taz I thought he was a complete and total ass hole. BOY did I get THAT wrong! Can't judge a book by its cover... I may have to bring a pistol to Excursions cause if Taz ain't playing during prime time somebody is getting a pinky toe shot off!
Then here come them females. Minx and that damn Dee Jay Alicia boy oh BOY!!! THEM heifa's!! When I tell you they slapped the cowboy piss out of the menfolk.. that is exactly what they did. - think I saw a few of em in the corner with tears in their eyes. I'm not sure what the music did to those two but they straight murdered the decks. Power went out and er'thang y'all.. they are some stone cold fine chicks, all dainty and shit that hit harder than Tyson. Selection after selection kept the folks with lifted fist and pounding feet. They worked together like they had grown up in the same household. They were cohesive. Like they new what the other was thinking they flowed like water. and just like water.... they gave us all LIFE! To see them play like that brought so much joy to my heart. Musically they know the benefit of what it is to be part of a collective whole and it showed in how they played off each other. There was no leader no follower just two fuckin phenomenal females leading the charge, and their people on a musical journey!- if we were marching off to war those two would be fearless Generals!
Gotta show much love to my Chicago family, they showed up to support- y'all they had matching light up shoes and er'thang.. and they came to DANCE!! They made the party more enjoyable with their infectious energy. Now, you know I would not be me if I didn't call out the obvious. I would have liked to have seen more Detroit family there., you say you love House well Kim gave ya what ya wanted.. times two! - Let's try to be a little more supportive of each other! - but Kim, don't have it at that place again.. I felt like I was on the corner of Blood and Crip LOL, as did a few others. But forget all that... ya Collisions lll was just what the Dr. ordered! Can't wait to see who plays next year. I did not stick around for Wilhite and Boxx's set. Them Phools know I love em. I was not missed, and I am sure they showed their entire ass(es)
So after being re-birthed by two women ( Minx and Alicia) I went over to Motor City Wine to get schooled by two Masters.. Norm Talley and Mike Huckaby. As it were, it was the record release party for Hucks new works. Let me pause here.. ok, I did NOT know Huck danced like the mans got mad rhythm too! Once again you could feel the love and understanding these two masterful DJs have for each other. They too had that ebb and flow. Never hogging the decks knowing without knowing what the other was thinking musically. They fed the crowd and calmed their hunger for good music, good HOUSE music.
And who was there to support.. that damn Delano Smith and Eric Johnson. Hell, Jason Garcia was having a hard time containing his excitement his face may be permanently stuck with a smile on it. Train was there aka Reggie's little brother aka Soiree, as well as John E. Collins..all there to support Mike before he gallivants off around the globe to spread his musical seed impregnating all those who are blessed enough to be injected by him, musically. They will birth the next generation of music lovers.
I truly "heart" the Huckaby's Craig, the older of the two always educates me with that funky shit. Huck ( aka Michael or Mike or whateva you call him) is the more tech savvy and likes to play around with sound a tad bit more than his brother Huck likes the mechanics of music and sound. IMO Mike is the better DJ, but Craig, he is my story teller he educates me in other ways.. no matter how ya cut it. Those two will always have my love and adoration. All I need them to do for me.. is to play a set together. ( ...and I know at least ONE of y'all is ready this so call ya brother and make it happen)- Thanks loves!- big stupid grin should be inserted here!!!
As I sat next to Delano, he nor I really disturbed each other outside of having small talk. It dawned on me how we supported one another. He leaned against me to get a photo of Norm and Huck. And as goofy as this sounds. I kinda, " got it" at that moment he needed me to be an anchor, he needed my support. Just like I need him and many like him to carry me\us, to take me\us away from whatever "this" is.. be it economical trying times, romantic situationships, family issues. Those DJs are our vessels they take us away from whatever "IT" is. They are the anchors of our community! They are our teachers. For some, they are role models, for others...peers, teachers, brothers, sisters, friends.
I tell my story based on the places I go and the people I know. Never will I let another tell me about me or what role I played in this fabulous community of ours. You may hear two's and few's about me. but if you didn't hear it from me then chances are its wrong-no matter who it comes from!
We have a lot of history, and while some may skew history there are others who tell the right and correct story of how things happened. Of how each one of us played a pivotal role(s) in the others lives. I may not always get it right but I have a, "Delano"- y'all should get a Delano ( on sale now at Macy's) ROFLMAO and he always pulls my coat tail when I am wrong. I trust him because he was there in the beginning he along with many others. So if he says, "Nope PJ you wrong" I never take it as a personal affront. Sometimes I don't like it but what I DO have to do is respect it! Sometimes I want to fight him. But he went to Central and he's a pretty boy so he knows how to throw hands.
You see not only does a community grow when a collective group of people come together for a common goal but also when we have respect for each role that the other has played! When an individual knows his/her worth, not just monetary. But their worthiness in the game. In their story on the foundation of this community. When your history is written do you want fact or fiction? You know YOUR story..tell it. I can only do so much for this world of ours I am but one cog and when we put all those cogs together. When we stand in our truth, when we tell our own story, when we flow together like Minx and Dee Jay Alicia and Norm and Huck. Like Nervous and Jax like Pablo and Taz. Can you imagine how much greater our community will be... while you marinate on that
Let the Music Play
P~
A few months back I was deep into Ken Burns special on the history of Jazz. From its origins to the key players that made it the true American art form that it is. It amazes me that Underground House and Techno is the much like the beginnings of Jazz... and y'all KNOW what happened to Jazz don't cha! It went from the heart and soul of Afrika, to the streets of New Orleans and expanded out. Flowing like the blood from our hearts... feeding and replenishing our internal soul and organs. We need it to stay alive. Steeped in the counter metric structure, the heartbeat, the drum, the call and response.. I invite you to close your eyes and feel the music!
You see, in the early days of Jazz they would gather together in the music, usually on a Sunday, and much of this new music was heard during festivals after the harvest.. ( does any of this sound even slightly familiar)- They would gather on street corners to play this new sound carried with them from Mother Afrika to this new land that was built on the backs of their fore-mothers and fathers. You see we had not been out of the darkness that was slavery.
And while we had been ripped apart from our families, our names stolen, our limbs sore, our men beaten our women made to be bed-warmers for the masters pleasure.. the one thing that they could not break was our spirit and the call of the drum beat that was in our DNA!- even then the music could not be stopped!
...back to the key players of the Jazz era. When I watched the program I couldn't help but to compare the musicians of that time to the DJ's/Producers of our time.... and here is another clue that history does repeat itself. The program taught me that even then blacks and whites came together for the music they were somewhat codependent on each other. The white folk was feeling that sweet sound of early jazz peoples.
..and while he came along a little later on hands down one of the most regal, elegant, prolific, players of the jazz era was, The Duke.. Ellington that is. ( but back to him in a minute)
There are times when I think, I have some kinda DJ sixth sense. Last week I was riding along and John Collins just popped in my head. Remembering those long dreads., ( I had a hard time getting over him cutting them off) I thought about this Cat, wondering what he was like as a child. Cause y'all know he can be very stoned faced., don't let that fool ya he has a heart of gold. I imagined even as a child Mr. Collins ( cause that's what I have called and will continue to call him) - he deserves that respect. Didn't cry or grimace. I imagine as a baby he spoke is complete sentences like, " mom I'm hungry, I would like my bottle now please. With cereal and a banana"- with a straight face! not that crying was a sign of weakness and was beneath him.. he was just born strong, classy, of good quality and character and sense of WHO he is!
I had heard of John, but had never seen him play until maybe the last year or two. I was slightly intimidated by him. I call him the "elder statesmen" not because of his age. He, to me...is just wise, his eyes tell a story if you care to look. So one day I did.
I was having an event ( and I always like to give a door prize at my events...) and had ask Mr. Collins for some UR t-shirts. I was invited to Submerge and as I sat across from him I got the feeling of warmth, kindness and a gentle heart. I also saw in his eyes, class, elegance, a soulful spirit, knowledge.
What I found out after our conversation is he can tell you what he's all about from his playing style. He is your all around phenomenal DJ! He understands each and every crowd he plays for., and knows what to give you to feed that need for the rhythm. This comes from years of experience and raising above petty beefs and squabbles.. again, the word elegance comes to mind - like The Duke he is quiet, fashionable both talented and gifted! I mean we all know he is with Submerge and he a key member of UR- before he was any of that he was John E. Collins, one of the "cluster" of Collins'es.
Last night I heard him play at one of the hippest spots in Detroit.. underground at its finest. It was a celebration of DJ Seoul's birthday with Detroit Techno Militia and Marie Staggat for the 313OneLove project heading the charge. ( if you haven't picked up your copy of Marie's book I highly suggest you get yours sooner than later).
I'm going to pause here and take a moment to talk about Tom Linder, or as I call him... Tommy Gunzz. Boy can that Cat GO!. I'm not a big fan of Techno ( sorry y'all) but that Tom gets me going every time. So much energy and skill.. he simply LOVES what he does. With his DYNAMIC 1st Lady by his side there is no stopping him(them) Tom is a force of nature. He is half man half amazing!
A few months back Tom had undergone surgery. I remember being very worried., scared even. Not because we are all that close but because it took me back to when I was married and my then husband had had major surgery. I remember how it felt to be in the hospital knowing but not knowing.. praying, questioning. I don't think I had ever been that worried about someone outside of my family before. I worried about my friend Angie ( the 1st Lady) I KNEW what she was going through mentally, physically, and emotionally! I'd been there. I cried but in my heart I knew he would pull through.. and boy or boy did that man pull through huntee!! With the million dollar smile, and 2 million dollar skill, and the 3 million dollar arms pull through. Thank you God for your grace and mercy! - he played his heart out! He is like soulful funky techno-ishy you can see his love for both House, progressive, and Techno blend perfectly- he ( tying back to the beginnings of Jazz., Tom would be Nick LaRocca) taking all of what he loved and learned and turning it into his own! Tom Linder TRULY made me like Techno- both he and DJ Seoul gave us the bid'ness last night! just Oh so good!
...but I have to spin this back aroud (giggles "spin", back around" #DJSPEAK) - I'm a goofball I know... what'evs!
From the time Mr. Collins came in he was his usual stoned face self. ( this is not meant as disrespect its just how I see him) always the professional, exchanging pleasantries and being incog'negro!
This sweet dark chocolate man with the body of an Afrikan warrior king..( I know cause I felt him up) it was TOTALLY by accident.. well, kinda sorta! I'd gone to hug him from behind.. then I was like, "oh..oh damn"!! lemme see. 1...2...3...4...5...6! YES LORT the man has a six pack! I mean, don't judge me., I'm a woman he's a man and NO woman would resist feeling on a man with a body like THAT! He has a body better than folks half his age! all I could think about is, somebody put some hot burnin oil on this King! and rub him down! ( sorry my mind tends to wander when it comes to the opposite sex)
...ok what direction was I going in again, I have lost my train of thought............( y'all, I really did forget where I was going with this)
When John hit the decks, this was one of the few times I knew a DJ that played like he plays overseas John came in and just kicked the door in.. fucked shit up, and left us in awe. and we had already been beat by Tom and Joe! How much more did they expect us to take!! welp,.. I tell ya them Cats beat the box., and us too! I had to ask myself. "what did the music do to them? Cause they were KILLIN it"!!!!!
Track after track one by one they kept heads bangin and feet moving. John, in all of his beautiful and regal glory, straight stoned face... just gave all life! soulful techno and few very light sprinkles of standards but mostly he was on something I'd never really experienced cause I'm not a big Techno fan! I mean I like it in small doses or so I thought.
No Shazamming cause this was all vinyl no errors no slip ups execution was better than "damn good"! Personally I would have liked to have seen better execution on the blends..but I'm still learning so this may just be how its done.. I'm no professional. Nonetheless it did NOT take away from the feeling last night..
From the Congo to the fields, from the street corners of New Orleans to the harvest festivals. To the river boats, speak easy's, jukejoints, discotheques, backyard barbeque's, under bridges, in abandoned train stations, to wine bars, and secret locations that's so far off the map ya can't help but marvel and the concept!-Its the beats, the rhythm, the call and response,
Its the music its, its, the underground and John E. Collins is its perfect spokesperson. He is all that we should aspire to be. Maybe its part of his make up I understand why RESISTANCE is futile! we can all SUBMERGE ourselves in his groove..
He played with the kids that looked up to him and folks like Mad Mike Banks- Jeff Mills, and others.
They ain't babies no mo! They can hang.. BEEN hangin with the big dawgs!
Last night was simply music amazing. I would like to see both DTM play with some House Cats. I'd call it, " When Sounds Collide"- that would be phenomenal - maybe...oneday!?!
Mr. Collins, thank you! From your 1st gig playing for the Alpha's ( of which you are a member) to your residency at Cheeks, from WJLB , to lands and nations far and wide. You have taken with you all that you are, all that you have learned, all that we should be! UR the GOAT! ( Greatest of all time)
Let the Music Play
~P

Anyone who keeps up with me on Facebook or reads my Blogs, knows how much I adore both Marcellus and Jamie 3:26. I truly believe they are craftsmen of this DJ game.. their execution and technical savvy how they lay the beats and blend the music is mastery at its finest!
The tune selection is mind blowing, very few know what to play and when to play it and make us like it.
Ya know, kinda like when you were a kid and ya moms would put ketchup on stuff to make you eat it! They know what to put on us to make us like "it"..., and last night they put some sho'nuff good music on "us"!
Them two Cat's went together like left Twix and right Twix just all kinds of chocolate and caramel goodness.. Watching Marcellus and Jamie play together was like watching a painter create a great work of art! Or watching an architect design. Or ... (and I might be stretching the limits here)... or like when the Lord created the Heavens and Earth. It was simply beautiful. It was quality music and tune selection. Impeccable style. They created a vibe that I'll just go ahead and equate to the garden of Eden. Pure, where love ruled supreme, even though serpents where in the grass. It was a creation of beauty, fine lines perfect blends, great story telling.. althought towards the end they stopped telling a story and just gave it to us! like in my Puffy voice they were like, " take dat take dat take dat" !! and we were like, "oohkaay"!
They kinda sorta tag teamed., and here is the real beauty lays. Marcellus and Jamie are so in tuned with the music and each other they played like they were one soul., four hands four eyes, and four ears became one. Them ninja were like the fucking Wonder Twins when they activated their powers!
Ok, so listen y'all know it's all intimate and stuff at Motor City Wine., well Dave goes and turns off the heat a few hours before the party even started.. and dude had to turn the air conditioner on and the patio door had to stay open.. THAT'S how hot them two brothers had it last night.
1st up was Marcellus, starting the night off right with some ol' cool funky vibes. I've always said, Cell is not a 2 dimensional DJ/Producer. Marcellus likes to play with sound as many DJs do, but to Marcellus sound is tangible it has a color he can see sound ( if that makes any sense) - and since he sees music differently from your average human he has the ability to be all over the place with his tunes and make them all fit together.. basically Marcellus can make purple, red, and orange work! ( blend that is)- he did a lil this and that, disco, deep house, a splash of some technoish type shit, some progressive..
Marcellus is solid, sure and steady. I watch those fingers caress the vinyl he was gentle with it. Make no mistake about it. Marcellus got some skills under them sheets. - I mean...I'm not fucking dude but whoever is, is a lucky chick.. When DJs touch their precious records it's like they are touching the most tender and sensitive spot on a woman. Its almost orgasmic to watch some DJs handle the tools of the trade.. but vinyl is best cause, I mean... its 12 inches!
Marcellus, that's the love reception, and respect you should and will get everytime you play at home. I know you said last night was the , "funnest night you have had"! It was so apparent that you and ya lil playmate Jamie had a good time. I'm just mad that I did not have a lil snack for yo.... oh wait!! yeah I did!!!- insider!
So while Marcellus was driving them crazy, me and my lil homie go to pick up the special guest.. Jamie3:26.. THAT man! When God breathed life into that man.. he did right by this Chicago native! Greatness was created. And then the Lord saw fit to place the most awesome grandmother in Jamie's life. It was she who saw to it that her grandbaby got what he needed to make his dreams a reality!
When I watch Jamie I think about the kinda childhood he had. He must have grown up around music. Uncles barbecuing, aunts lovingly cussing out kids and giving out loads of love and hugs. and all while this was goin on the music played, and James Watson became Jamie 3:26.
Jamie plays with so much fire and intensity you can't help but put out the same. Its, energy for energy give and give back! He gives nuclear fusion type heat! We were packed like a can of sardines - giggin our asses off! Each tune struck us like a lightening bolt! Electrifying our collective souls and feet!
Sweat dripping over those caramel shoulders and face, stroking the music. When Jamie gets behind the decks he is coming hard and fast but knows how to slow it down and give it to you hard with slow strokes... taking it out just a little and then once again getting back to those hard strokes..
So this is what happened last night. Marcellus, Jamie and the rest of the room had a musical orgy.
One of them making love with the music the other fucking us with the music, only those who were there know who was who! Truth be told they changed up so they each took a turn fucking and love making.
Each of us were hip rolling and slow strokin. Grinding on each other, and the mood and vibe in the room. It was the perfect venue for the intimate adventure.
It was pure fun to watch those two play as if one had invited the other over to his house just to kick it and and play some tunes. When I heard one of them tell the other, " go head" I knew we were about to get some serious shit. Something was going to transpire! Then Marcellus drops Chelsea Rodgers... ooooh baby that room lit up! They played with clean and clear precision. No flaws or defects. The fed each other and we got the nourishment we needed. That good Vitamin HM that the stuff that feeds ya soul!
It was up close and personal, it was family, it was good times, and great music, it was two men who have a love for the craft and sport of the game. Who's names will be forever remembered after we are all long forgotten.
The respect they have for each other is so evident and hopefully it will spill over to the hearts of each and everyone of us.
The music and the scene is soiled by over inflated egos and motherfuckers with deep seated insecurities. I can come in alone. Dance alone. Leave alone., but I'm never truly alone. I have the music and it has me. I have friends who believe in this thing of ours, and believe in me. I have both promoters and detractors. I don't feel the need to cuddle up to a DJ cause he has a penis and a pulse. I am enough, and do not need validation from anyone! I don't do this because I want kudos or accolades, although they are nice. and yeah, I would like to get paid. But right now I do it for the love of it! I'm not loud, obnoxious, I don't need to boast about what I'm doing.. All I need to do is write and

...sorry folks the wine was plentiful and I had more than my fill so I don't remember the names of the songs. Sue me!

A few years back, Earl Mixxen McKinney had the notion to form a group of DJs who had mad skills behind the table. That group consisted of his life long best friend and Detroit legend Al Ester Jr., and a new kid out of Boston name Chris Habibian. Chris had come to Detroit seeking his fame and fortune and was introduced to the Detroit House community by every ones favorite Hi Energy fitness goddess Nancy Gavoor. ( y'all know them Armenians stick together) - insert big cheesy grin.
The very 1st time I heard Chris, I dubbed him the Boston Banger he calls himself KidBibs - personally...I like my moniker better, but I'm kinda bossy that way!
Anywho... Chris came to Detroit and blew us away with his DJ stylings he was a young Cat with Vet skills and he loved the wax, vinyl that is!
Both Earl and I saw something in the youngin and my guess is once Earl put thought to action Chris was on board from the get go., and he did not let the newly formed Sonic Natives down! But times changed and Chris sadly had to leave to go back to Bean town but with lemons you make lemonade right...? So with Chris we expanded our Sonic Native reach and brand!
How did yours truly become the only chick in the group AND I can not DJ to save my children's lives.. welp, I'll tell ya! Earl and I just clicked.. we bonded we became like brother and sister ( and with that came all the sibling arguments) two strong personalities he, being the Scorpio and me being the Aries and all.. But I know Earl had a vision and I was his ride or die. Right or wrong I rode with him to help his vision become a reality.
But enough about that, I've written about how we came to be.
I have to say, this Blog almost didn't happen! NEVER EVER tell me what I, "better" do! That is on no level cool or acceptable.. but calmer heads prevailed and I wrote it because "I"..ME..PJ wanted too! When you come to me, come correct or don't come at all!
Then... Magic happened! He came from the windy city, he served our country, he's like some kinda kungfu master, and he's a DJ!
Now, when Earl 1st ask/told me about adding Magic to the line up I wasn't sure if this would be a good look. I was not all that impressed with his playing...real talk, but Earl was, and Earl had been in the game far longer than I had and he knew what he was doing. I had to concede to the one who had the acumen, and that was Earl!- insert "side eye".. ol' micromanagin ass (but only I can say that)
Now, it's pretty well understood that if I do not talk or write about you I feel ( and this is just MY opinion) that you need to go back and work on your skills. So what I am about to say is strictly my opinion I could be dead ass wrong but... well let me just continue writing and we will see where this goes.
I saw Mel as new to the game even though he has been djing since before his time in the United States Army. But to me Mel was just trying to find his footing here in Detroit. He is a Chicago native and they play much different than we do. So I had to adjust and become accustomed to his style.
Welp!!! Let me tell ya, that dread locked DJ made a believer out of me last night! Now Ms. Iris ( who has been in the game a mighty long time and knows a thing or 3 about this music and DJ game.) Now SHE told me how Magic had showed his entire ass for her birthday back in February. I'd started hearing things. How Magic was coming with straight hard beats. Banging tracks, playing with all kinds of gusto!
When Magic plays he has all the right moves, but I was not a big fan of the tune selection... but again, I had to allow him to teach me. I can be stubborn sometimes ya know!
When DJ Magic hit the decks last night I knew everything Ms. Iris had told me was 100 % correct cause Mr. Magic took a hold to those tables and did not let them go until they begged him to! Magic had the room hyped and controlled them just like he controlled that mixer and fader ( look I like using DJ speak) allow me a little latitude here. Track after track after track was a heavy hitter. Well, ok... The Fleetwood Mac track didn't fit with where the vibe was going but that's just me!
Yes, Mr. Magic last night was your night. To me its like you came out of a shell and showed us who you REALLY are! I want you to KEEP playing just like that. Don't deviate, one iota You came, you saw, you conquered!
...and while the views and opinions expressed by me may not be the same as others. I can say this.. Melvin Tuck, DJ Magic, Trey's daddy... you were ER'BODIES daddy last night the way you whipped the hell outta us with your tunage and style.
At one point it was me and the Magic Man. I was deep into writing and he was deep into the beats. Together he was doing his thang and I was doing mine, we were in sync. Magic made me feel what no other dj had made me feel before. I now know what it feels like to be in the zone! I was writing and he was playing and boy oh boy was that man in the playing zone. I didn't need to see the keys I was typing I knew where they were just like a great DJ knows where all his/her buttons knobs and controllers are. For a moment Magic was controlling my words and actions with his heavy deep beats! Last night Melvin went home. Not to Chicago, he went back to the motherland. He took us all on birthday journey! He played for himself.. but the gift of his style was to us! The floor was all a glow with feet stomping to his skills. Wow Magic... simply wow! BLEW ME THE FUCK AWAY!!!!
Never a selfish man he allowed his brotheren to join in on the fun, but this ain't about them Mumford Mustangs! - its about that light skin Cat from Chicago! - you know.. the one with the dreads. The one who created Magic! Flossmore Homewood High school ya dig!
We hear you Mr. Magic, loud and very fucking clear! MOVEMENT is coming, Charivari is coming and there will be plenty of parties in between time and in the mean time. And as long as you play like you did last night!!! bay-BEE! you gonna be too hot to handle and too cold to hold!
And while I am no longer a Sonic Native, that group of rag tail DJs will always be MY boys, MY loves! We fight, we laugh, we love, hell sometimes we don't even speak! But each and everyone of the Sonic Natives are MY brothers, MY babies.. and I can talk about them.. but bet not nobody else say one word against them.. cause no matter what! Earl, Al, Chris, Melvin, Steve, and the newest member Big Rob Martinez Jr. will ALWAYS be my family and I will ALWAYS be their ride or die! - even when the do piss me off and I know I piss them off but, I'm the girl, the sister, that's my role in this thing of ours - (insert big cheesy grin) hey... that's family ya know!
I give credit where credit is due! To whom respect is given, respect is earned.. and Mel... to you all the credit and respect my brother...my friend! We hear dude... WE HEAR YOU!
Let the Music Play!!
